Level 2: Essay Writing Skills

In this module, Ms. Valerie builds on the 3 paragraph essay foundation, teaching students how to write 5 paragraph essays the Fast Way, and how to write essays while under pressure.

Can my teen take this class?

After completing Foundations #1 (either the Teen or Adult course), students are ready for Foundations #2. 

What will they learn?

Students will learn how to organize their thoughts from an essay prompt and the steps to writing an essay quickly--helpful for testing situations (ACT/SAT), in-class timed essays, as well as making essay homework finish faster.

Students will learn the secrets to writing a 5 paragraph essay (hint: don’t start with the introductory paragraph), how to write a grabber, and how to funnel down an introductory paragraph and widen a concluding paragraph.

  • Learn how to expand an Introductory Statement into an Introductory Paragraph with a grabber (the fast way version), bridge, and summary.  
  • Learn how to expand a Concluding Statement into a Concluding Paragraph that connects the essay all together, and expands the ideas in a meaningful way.
  • And learn how to format, revise, and polish their essay before turning it in (an oft-skipped step for most students).
