Essay Writing Basics for Adults: Level 1

This module teaches students who want to learn the Fast Way concepts as quickly as possible, to write 1-3 paragraph essays in just 5 lessons.

What will students learn?

Using easy-to-follow patterns, Ms. Valerie begins by teaching how to write a solid, well-constructed paragraph and then scales to seamless three paragraph essays. Along the way, Ms. Valerie also teaches writing tools that help students write with more maturity and higher vocabulary.

How is this taught?

In Level 1, students experience an interactive, online class environment that has been previously recorded. They will enjoy Ms. Valerie’s upbeat and engaging style as she introduces them to her streamlined writing system.

What is included?

Included in this at-your-own-pace online module is:

  1. Recorded video lessons with explanatory slides,
  2. A downloadable self-contained workbook for each lesson (professionally designed),
  3. Each uploaded homework assignment will have personal response from the teacher, Ms. Valerie,
  4. Checklists for each lesson (so students know exactly how many points they earned, and more importantly, as a reminder to include every writing tool they’ve learned so far),
  5. Resources for Vivid Verbs and Expert Adjectives so they have everything they need at hand,
  6. Recording sheets for points and drills,
  7. Full page list of How to Outline and Re-Aloud,
  8. Notetaking guide,
  9. Worksheets to practice organizing and writing tools,
  10. Worksheet examples
  11. Permission to use this course for any student within a family unit

How many lessons are there?

This module has 5 lessons, which is perfect for students who want to learn the patterns as fast as possible and start applying them in their other classes right away.

Lesson 1: Anatomy of a Paragraph
Lesson 2: The Forbidden and the Vivid
Lesson 3: The Banished and the Expert
Lesson 4: The Three Paragraph Transformation
Lesson 5: The Big Secret to Writing Faster Under Pressure

After they complete the course, what will they be able to do?

After this class students will be able to write 1-1 1/2 page essays with confidence. They will:

  • know the steps to starting the essay (instead of staring at the screen wondering),
  • know how to organize their thoughts,
  • know how to answer the prompt quickly and incorporate it into their Introductory Statement
  • know how to create a Concluding Statement that connects the essay all together,
  • and know how to go back and polish their essay before turning it in (an oft-skipped step for most students).

How long will it take?

Depends on the student. With over 200 students who signed up for the beta testing of the courses, some took only FIVE DAYS to complete the course. However, most students like one-lesson-a-week pace, so will finish in 5 weeks. It's up to the student!

This module is a prerequisite to Level 2, which builds on 1 page essays to fully fleshed out 5 paragraph essays, and adds tools for writing successfully when under pressure (useful for the ACT/SAT, AP tests, and in-class timed essays).
